Why does my Audi 80 make a clicking noise when I start the engine?

I recently purchased a used Audi 80 and have noticed that every time I start the engine, there is a clicking noise coming from under the hood. It only lasts for a few seconds and then goes away. Is this something I should be concerned about?

It is most likely caused by a faulty starter or starter solenoid. I suggest taking it to a mechanic to have it checked and potentially replaced.

Check the battery terminals for any corrosion and make sure they are clean and secure. This could also be a sign of a dying battery.

Do you have any aftermarket electronics installed, such as a new stereo or alarm system? These can sometimes cause interference and result in a clicking noise when starting the engine.
