I recently purchased a used Audi 80 and I was wondering about the maintenance for the timing belt. Is there a specific mileage or time interval I should follow for replacement? And should I also replace the water pump at the same time?
ReplyAccording to the Audi owner's manual, the timing belt should be replaced every 75,000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. As for the water pump, it is recommended to replace it at the same time as the timing belt to save on labor costs in the long run.
In my experience, it's better to err on the side of caution and replace the timing belt every 60,000 miles. It's an expensive repair if it breaks and can also cause damage to the engine.
I have an Audi 80 and I just replaced the timing belt and water pump at 80,000 miles. The mechanic told me it was starting to show signs of wear, so it's better to be safe than sorry.
