What is the best way to diagnose and fix an engine misfire issue in an Audi 80?

I've noticed my Audi 80 is running rough and occasionally stutters when accelerating. How can I pinpoint and resolve the cause of this engine misfire?

Based on my experience, a common cause of engine misfire in an Audi 80 is a faulty ignition coil. I recommend using an OBDII scanner to check for any error codes and diagnostic testing the ignition coils to determine if any need to be replaced.

If you have recently replaced your spark plugs and are still experiencing misfires, the next thing to check would be the spark plug wires. Make sure they are properly connected and not damaged. I also recommend cleaning the throttle body and mass airflow sensor as these can also contribute to misfires.

In addition to checking the ignition system, it is important to also inspect the fuel system. Check the fuel filter and fuel injectors for any clogs or debris. It may also be helpful to run a fuel system cleaner through the engine to clear out any buildup.
