What does the 'E' mode on the automatic transmission of an Audi 80 do?

I have recently purchased an Audi 80 and I noticed that there is a 'E' mode on the automatic transmission along with 'D' and 'S' modes. Can someone please explain what the 'E' mode is for and in what situations should I use it?

The 'E' mode on the automatic transmission stands for 'Economy' mode. This mode is specifically designed to help improve fuel efficiency by optimizing the transmission's shift points. It is best used for everyday city driving or when you want to save fuel on longer journeys.
