How do I troubleshoot brake noise on my Audi A3?

I recently noticed that whenever I apply my brakes, there is a loud screeching noise. It's becoming quite embarrassing when driving around. Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to fix it?

It sounds like you may have worn out brake pads. This is a common issue in older cars and can easily be fixed by replacing them. I recommend getting them checked by a mechanic to confirm and to also rule out any other potential problems.

Another possibility could be that there is dirt or debris stuck in your brakes. This can cause a loud noise when the brakes are applied. I suggest taking your car to a car wash or using a high-pressure hose to clean out your brake system.
