How can I tell if my Audi 80's transmission fluid needs to be changed?

I've noticed my Audi 80 has been shifting gears a little roughly lately. Is there a way for me to check if the transmission fluid needs to be changed?

It's always a good idea to regularly check your transmission fluid level and condition. First, locate the transmission dipstick and remove it from the filler tube. Wipe it clean, reinsert it, and then remove it again to check the fluid level. If the fluid level is low, you may need to add more. If the fluid is a dark brown or has a burnt smell, it's time to have it changed.

Another way to tell if your transmission fluid needs to be changed is by taking a look at the color. Fresh transmission fluid has a pink or red color, but as it ages, it can turn into a dark brown or black. If you notice your fluid is dark, it's probably time for a change.
