Why does my Audi A3 produce a loud rattling noise while idling?

I recently started noticing a strong rattling noise coming from the engine while idling in my Audi A3. It seems to go away once I start driving, but returns when I come to a stop. What could be causing this issue?

The most common cause for a rattling noise in an Audi A3 is a loose heat shield on the exhaust system. The heat shield is designed to prevent the exhaust from heating up the surrounding components, but over time, it can become loose and vibrate against the exhaust, creating the rattling noise. The best solution is to have the heat shield reattached or replaced by a mechanic.
