Why does my 1992 Audi 80 keep stalling while idling?

I recently purchased a used 1992 Audi 80 with roughly 120,000 miles on it. I've noticed that when I am stopped at a red light or in traffic, the car will occasionally stall out. It starts up again just fine, but it's becoming quite frustrating. Any ideas on what could be causing this issue?

The most common cause for stalling during idle is a faulty idle air control valve. This valve controls the amount of air that enters the engine when the car is not moving. If it is faulty or clogged, it can affect the engine's idle speed, causing it to stall. I suggest getting this checked and replaced if necessary.

Another possibility could be a dirty or faulty mass air flow sensor. This sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine and sends this information to the car's computer for proper fuel intake. If it is dirty or not functioning properly, it could cause stalling issues. Try cleaning or replacing the sensor to see if it resolves the problem.

It could also be a problem with the fuel system, such as a clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump. If the engine is not getting enough fuel, it can struggle to stay running at idle. Have a mechanic check the fuel system components and replace any necessary parts.
