Why is there no longer an Audi A2 diesel engine available for sale?

I am interested in purchasing an Audi A2, but I noticed that there are no diesel engines available for sale. Can anyone explain the reasoning behind this decision by Audi?

Unfortunately, with stricter emissions regulations, Audi was unable to continue producing diesel engines for the A2. There simply wasn't enough demand to justify the cost of making them compliant.

Audi also made the decision to focus on their electric and hybrid models, and was therefore no longer devoting resources to developing diesel engines for the A2.
