Why does the Audi A1 have a stop/start system?

I noticed that my Audi A1 has a feature called the stop/start system, but I'm not sure how it works or why it's there. Can someone explain this feature to me?

The Audi A1 has a stop/start system to save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions. Basically, it automatically shuts off the engine when the car is stopped, and restarts it when you release the brake pedal.

The stop/start system is designed to improve fuel efficiency, especially in city driving. It may take a little getting used to, but it's a great feature once you get the hang of it.
