Why does the 2020 Audi A3 have a start-stop system?

I've noticed that my new Audi A3 has a start-stop system, where the engine shuts off when I come to a stop and restarts when I take my foot off the brake. What is the purpose of this feature?

The start-stop system in the 2020 Audi A3 is designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. By temporarily shutting off the engine when it is not needed, it can help save gas and reduce your carbon footprint. This feature is most useful in stop-and-go traffic or when idling for extended periods of time.

Some people may find the start-stop system in the Audi A3 to be annoying or distracting, as the engine restarts when you take your foot off the brake. If this is the case, you can turn off the feature by pressing the button with the 'A' and 'O' symbol located near the gear shift. Keep in mind, however, that this may result in slightly lower fuel efficiency.

It's worth noting that the start-stop system in the 2020 Audi A3 does not harm the engine or cause any damage. The components are designed to handle the frequent starting and stopping without any issues. So, don't worry about using this feature regularly.
