Why does my Audi 80's engine make knocking sounds?

I recently bought a used Audi 80 and noticed that the engine makes unusual knocking sounds. It seems to happen more when the engine is cold and goes away as it warms up. Is this a common issue with Audi 80s or should I be worried?

The knocking sound is most likely due to a worn or loose connecting rod. It's a common issue with older Audi 80s and can be fixed by replacing the connecting rods. I recommend taking it to a trusted mechanic for a proper diagnosis and repair.

It could also be caused by low oil pressure, which can lead to damage in the engine. Check your oil levels and make sure you are using the recommended viscosity for your Audi 80. If the issue persists, it's best to have it checked by a mechanic.

Another possibility is that the knocking sound is coming from a faulty valve or lifter. This can be fixed by replacing the damaged part. I suggest taking your Audi 80 to a certified mechanic for a thorough inspection.
