I recently purchased a used Audi 80 and have noticed that when I start the engine, there is a noticeable ticking noise. It goes away after a few minutes of driving. Is this normal or should I be concerned?
ReplyThis ticking noise is usually caused by a faulty valve lifter, which is responsible for opening and closing the engine valves. As the car ages, the lifter can wear out and cause the ticking. It's best to have a mechanic take a look and replace it if necessary.
It's possible that the ticking noise is coming from the timing belt tensioner, which is responsible for keeping the timing belt tight. If the tensioner is loose or worn out, it can also make a ticking noise. Have a mechanic inspect it to be sure.
I had a similar issue with my Audi 80 and it turned out to be a faulty spark plug. The ticking noise was caused by a misfire in one of the cylinders. Take your car to a trusted mechanic and have them check the spark plugs.
