Why does my Audi 80's engine make a rattling noise at start up?

I recently purchased an Audi 80 and have noticed that when I start the engine, there is a slight rattling noise coming from the engine bay. It goes away after a few seconds but I am worried it could be a sign of a bigger issue. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

The most common cause of this issue is a loose timing chain. It can become loose over time and when the engine is started, the chain rattles against the engine, causing the noise. It is important to get it checked and fixed as soon as possible before it causes more damage.

Another possibility could be a faulty tensioner. This is responsible for keeping the timing chain taut and if it is not functioning properly, it can cause the chain to rattle. It is best to get it inspected and replaced if needed to avoid any further issues.
