I have a 2002 Audi 80 and recently I've noticed that whenever I brake, there is a loud screech coming from the tires. It's quite embarrassing and I'm also concerned that it might affect the performance of my car. Can anyone tell me what could be causing this and if it's something I should be worried about?
ReplyIt sounds like your brake pads might be worn down. When the brake pads get too thin, the metal of the brake pad backing can start rubbing against the metal of the brake rotor, causing that screeching noise. You should definitely get this checked out by a mechanic as soon as possible.
It could also be due to dirt or debris getting stuck between the brake pads and rotor. This can cause a similar noise and can be easily fixed by getting your brakes cleaned. I recommend taking it to a trusted mechanic or doing it yourself if you have the knowledge and tools.
