Why does my Audi 80 make a grinding noise when I shift gears?

I have noticed that when I am driving my Audi 80 and shift gears, there is a loud grinding noise. It seems to happen more frequently when shifting into lower gears. What could be causing this and how do I fix it?

This could be a sign that your transmission is low on fluid. Check the transmission fluid level and top it off if needed. If the noise persists, it may be a sign of more serious transmission issues that should be checked by a professional mechanic.

Another potential cause could be a worn out clutch. If you feel the grinding when you release the clutch pedal, it may be time to replace it. It is not a difficult repair, but it is best to have it done by a professional.

If you have recently had your transmission fluid changed, it could also be the wrong type of fluid. Make sure to use the manufacturer recommended fluid to avoid any issues.
