Why does my Audi 80 engine make a loud clunking noise at startup?

I recently purchased an Audi 80 and have noticed a loud clunking noise coming from the engine at startup. It goes away after a few minutes of idling but I'm concerned about the cause and possible implications. Has anyone else experienced this and can offer some insight or advice?

There could be a few potential causes for this issue such as worn engine mounts or a malfunctioning timing belt tensioner. It's always best to have a qualified mechanic diagnose and fix the issue as soon as possible to avoid any further damage to your engine.

I had the same problem with my Audi 80 and it turned out to be a faulty solenoid in the starter motor. I would recommend taking your car to a reputable mechanic for a thorough inspection and repair.

It's possible that the clunking noise is caused by low oil pressure during startup. This could be due to a clogged oil filter or a malfunctioning oil pump. Have a mechanic check your oil levels and replace the filter if needed.
