Why do Audi A2 cars have aluminum bodies?

I heard that Audi A2 cars have aluminum bodies instead of steel like most cars. What is the reason for this choice and how does it affect the car's performance?

Having an aluminum body also makes Audi A2 cars easier to repair in case of an accident. This is because individual parts of the body can be replaced, instead of having to repair a steel frame. Plus, it's more environmentally friendly as aluminum is a highly recyclable material.

Audi opted for aluminum bodies to reduce the weight of the car and improve its fuel efficiency. This material also has better corrosion resistance which can prolong the lifespan of the car.

Aluminum is more expensive than steel, but it allows for better weight distribution in the Audi A2 and improves its handling and overall performance on the road. This was a smart engineering decision by Audi.
