Why can't I connect my phone to the Audi A1 wireless hotspot?

I have followed all the instructions in the user manual, but I can't seem to connect my phone to the wireless hotspot in my Audi A1. It just keeps showing a 'connection error' message. Any ideas on how to fix this?
