What type of oil should I use for my Audi 80 1.8L engine?

I recently purchased an Audi 80 with a 1.8L engine and I'm not sure what type of oil to use. What are the recommended oil specifications and how often should I change it?

According to Audi's official recommendation, the 1.8L engine in the Audi 80 requires a high-performance synthetic oil with a viscosity of 5W-40. It is also recommended to use an oil that meets the VW 502.00/505.00 specification.

In addition to the recommended synthetic oil, it is important to also use a high-quality oil filter. Changing your oil and filter every 5,000 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first, is generally a good rule of thumb for optimal engine health.

If you frequently drive in extreme temperatures or have a lot of stop-and-go city driving, you may want to consider using a synthetic blend oil with a higher viscosity, such as 10W-40. This will provide better protection for your engine under these conditions.
