What is the purpose of the start-stop system in an Audi A3?

I've noticed that my car's engine automatically shuts off when I come to a complete stop. What is the purpose of this feature and does it affect the overall performance of the car?

The start-stop system is designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by automatically turning off the engine when the car is at a standstill, such as at a traffic light or in heavy traffic. It does not have a negative impact on the performance of the car and can actually help save on gas.

I personally find the start-stop system annoying and have disabled it on my own Audi A3. However, it does have its benefits for the environment and can also save money in the long run. It's ultimately up to individual preference
