What is the purpose of the 'Launch Control' feature in Audi R8?

I've seen that the Audi R8 has a 'Launch Control' feature, but I'm not entirely sure what it does or how to use it. Can someone please explain its purpose and how it works?

The 'Launch Control' feature in Audi R8 is a system that allows the driver to achieve maximum acceleration from a standing start. By engaging this feature, the car's electronic systems will optimize the performance of the engine and transmission to deliver the fastest acceleration possible. To use it, simply put the car in Sport mode, hold down the brake and accelerator pedals, and release the brake when the RPM reaches a set level.
