What is the difference between DC fast charging and level 2 charging?

I am trying to decide if I should invest in a DC fast charger for my Audi e-Tron. Can you explain the difference between DC fast charging and level 2 charging and which option would be best for my daily charging needs?

A

DC fast charging allows for significantly faster charging times, usually around 30 minutes for an 80% charge. However, it can be more expensive and not all charging stations offer this option. On the other hand, level 2 charging is slower but more widely available and often cheaper. Consider your daily driving habits and charging accessibility to determine which option is best for you.

DC fast charging uses direct current to quickly charge your battery, while level 2 charging uses alternating current and takes longer to charge. If you have a long commute or frequently drive long distances, DC fast charging may be worth the extra cost. However, if you mainly use your e-Tron for short trips, level 2 charging may suffice.

One important factor to consider is the battery's longevity. Rapidly charging your battery with DC fast charging may decrease its overall lifespan. If you plan on keeping your e-Tron for a long time, it may be worth sticking with level 2 charging to preserve the battery.
