How to troubleshoot a faulty ignition coil on an Audi 80?

I've been experiencing issues with my Audi 80's engine not starting properly and suspect it may be due to a faulty ignition coil. How can I confirm this and troubleshoot the problem effectively?

Start by checking for any visible damage or wear on the ignition coil, such as cracks or burn marks. If none are found, you can use a multimeter to test the resistance of the coil and compare it to manufacturer specifications. If the resistance is off, then it's likely the coil is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Another way to confirm a faulty ignition coil is by performing a spark test. Remove the spark plug wire from the coil and attach a spark plug to it. Ground the spark plug on a metal surface and have someone crank the engine. If you see a spark, the coil is likely fine. If there is no spark, it could indicate a faulty coil.

In addition to these tests, it's also important to check for any loose or corroded connections at the ignition coil. These can also cause issues with starting and running the engine properly.
