How to fix the headlights on my Audi 80?

I've noticed that the headlights on my Audi 80 have been flickering and sometimes not turning on at all. I've checked the fuses and they seem to be fine. What could be causing this issue and how can I fix it?

First, try cleaning the contacts on the headlight bulbs and the sockets they go into.
