How does the Audi A8's Traffic Jam Assist feature work?

I've heard that the Audi A8 has a Traffic Jam Assist feature, but I'm not sure how it functions. Can someone explain the technology behind it?

The Traffic Jam Assist feature uses radar and camera sensors to detect and follow the vehicle in front of you at low speeds, automatically accelerating and braking to maintain a safe distance.
