How do I fix the fluctuating RPM on my Audi 80?

Recently, I've noticed that the RPM on my Audi 80 keeps going up and down, even when the car is in idle. It's very annoying and I'm worried it might be a sign of a bigger issue. Can anyone help me understand and resolve this problem?

Based on my experience with my own Audi 80, fluctuations in RPM can be caused by a vacuum leak or a dirty throttle body. Try checking and cleaning these components to see if it resolves the issue. Remember to also check for any damaged vacuum hoses.

I used to have a similar issue with my Audi 80 and it turned out to be a faulty mass air flow sensor. I had it replaced and the RPMs stabilized. Get it checked by a mechanic to see if it's the same issue for your car.

Fluctuating RPM can also be caused by a faulty idle control valve. It's a common issue with older Audi 80 models. If cleaning or replacing the vacuum components and mass air flow sensor doesn't work, have a mechanic check the idle control valve.
