How can I activate Audi A6 electric driving mode?

I recently purchased an Audi A6 and I noticed it has an electric driving mode. How do I activate this mode? Is it better for the environment?

To activate the electric driving mode, press the EV button located on the center console. This will allow you to drive up to 25 miles solely on electric power.
