Can I use 5W-30 motor oil in my Audi 80?

I recently bought a used Audi 80. The previous owner used 5W-30 motor oil in it, but the official Audi manual recommends 5W-40. Is it safe to continue using the 5W-30 oil or should I switch to 5W-40?
