I have a 1992 Audi 80 that starts up fine and drives well, but as soon as I come to a stop at a red light or stop sign, the engine starts to sputter and eventually stalls. It also seems to have trouble restarting after stalling. What could be causing this issue and how can I fix it?
ReplyBased on what you've described, it sounds like your idle control valve or idle air control valve may be malfunctioning. This valve is responsible for maintaining the correct idle speed when the car is at a stop. If it's not working properly, it can cause the engine to stall.
Another possibility is that your fuel filter is clogged. A clogged fuel filter can restrict the flow of fuel to the engine, causing it to stall. I would recommend having the fuel filter replaced if it hasn't been done recently.
Have you checked your spark plugs? Worn or dirty spark plugs can cause issues with starting and idling. It's a good idea to have them inspected and replaced if necessary.
