Why does the fuel economy of the Audi A5 decrease at higher speeds?

I've noticed that when I'm driving on the highway at high speeds, the fuel economy of my Audi A5 drops significantly. Can anyone explain why this happens?

The aerodynamic design of the Audi A5 is optimized for fuel efficiency at lower speeds. However, at higher speeds, air resistance increases and causes the engine to work harder and burn more fuel.
