Why do some Audi R8 models come with ceramic brakes?

I noticed that some versions of the Audi R8 come with ceramic brakes instead of traditional steel brakes. What are the benefits of ceramic brakes and are they worth the extra cost?

Ceramic brakes offer better performance and durability compared to steel brakes. They also have a longer lifespan and can withstand higher temperatures, making them ideal for high-performance cars like the Audi R8. However, they can be quite expensive and may not be necessary for everyday driving. If you have the budget and want the best braking experience, ceramic brakes are definitely worth considering.

A

Ceramic brakes are commonly used in racing cars because they can handle very high temperatures without fading or causing any damage. However, for normal street driving, ceramic brakes may not be necessary. If you don't regularly push your Audi R8 to its limits, the standard steel brakes should be more than sufficient.

The main benefit of ceramic brakes is their weight. They are much lighter than steel brakes, which can reduce unsprung weight and improve handling and performance. Additionally, ceramic brakes produce less brake dust, keeping your wheels cleaner for longer. If you want the ultimate lightweight and clean braking system for your Audi R8, go for the ceramic brakes.
