What is the difference between the Press and Hold feature and the Short Press feature in the Audi A7?

I noticed that my Audi A7 has a Press and Hold feature and a Short Press feature for certain buttons on the steering wheel. Can someone explain to me what the difference between these two features is and when to use each one?
