What is the difference between Ceramic Brakes and Carbon-fiber Brakes?

I am considering purchasing an Audi R8 and I noticed that it offers two different brake options: Ceramic Brakes and Carbon-fiber Brakes. Can you explain the difference between the two and how it may affect my driving experience?

Ceramic Brakes are made of a composite material that is extremely resistant to wear and heat, making them last longer and perform better under extreme conditions. However, they are also more expensive to replace if damaged. As for Carbon-fiber Brakes, they are even lighter and more efficient in dissipating heat, making them ideal for high-performance driving. However, they are also more costly and may not perform as well in cold weather.

Ceramic Brakes are typically better for street driving while Carbon-fiber Brakes are more suited for track use. This is because Ceramic Brakes can provide better braking performance when cold compared to Carbon-fiber Brakes which require heat to work optimally. If you plan on using your Audi R8 primarily for street driving, Ceramic Brakes may be the better option.

I personally prefer Carbon-fiber Brakes because they offer better performance and durability. However, it ultimately depends on your driving habits and budget. If you are an aggressive driver and frequently take your Audi R8 to the track, the extra cost of Carbon-fiber Brakes may be worth it. But if you mainly use your car for daily driving, Ceramic Brakes may suffice.
