Is it better to get the Audi R8 with a manual or automatic transmission?

I am considering purchasing an Audi R8 and am torn between getting it with a manual or automatic transmission. I have always loved the experience of driving a manual transmission, but I'm worried it will take away from the overall performance of the car.
