How to troubleshoot a recurrent check engine light in an Audi A4?

I've been getting a recurring check engine light in my Audi A4. It seems to go away after I get it checked and fixed, but it keeps coming back. How can I troubleshoot this issue and make sure it doesn't become a bigger problem?

First, make sure you are using the recommended fuel octane for your Audi A4. Using lower octane fuel can trigger the check engine light. Also, check your gas cap to make sure it is properly tightened. Loose or damaged gas caps can also trigger the light.

If those two things are not the issue, you may need to take your car to a mechanic to have the trouble code checked. This will give you a better idea of what is triggering the light and how to fix it.

Another possibility is a faulty oxygen sensor. This is a common issue in Audi A4s and can cause the check engine light to come on. If you suspect this is the problem, have it replaced by a certified mechanic.
