How to check the coolant level on an Audi 80?

I've noticed my Audi 80 is running warmer than usual and I suspect it's the coolant level. How can I check it and what should it be at?

It's important to check the coolant level regularly to prevent overheating and damage to your engine. To do so, wait for the engine to cool down, locate the coolant expansion tank, and check that the level is between the minimum and maximum marks. If it's below the minimum, top it up with a mixture of coolant and water to prevent freezing in the winter.

If your Audi 80's coolant level consistently drops below the minimum mark, it may be a sign of a leak. Look for any visible leaks in hoses, the radiator, or water pump. If you can't find any, it's best to take it to a mechanic for further diagnosis.

A common mistake is to add coolant directly into the radiator, which can cause air bubbles and uneven levels. Always use the expansion tank, and if necessary, fill up the tank to the maximum level before adding any to the radiator. Make sure to use the right type of coolant specified in your Audi 80's manual.
