How does the Audi e-Tron capture and store kinetic energy?

I've read about regenerative braking, but I'm still unclear on how the e-Tron actually captures and stores kinetic energy to power the electric motor.

The e-Tron uses a combination of regenerative braking and a complex energy recovery system to capture and store the kinetic energy released during braking. This energy is then used to recharge the battery and power the electric motor.
