My Audi 80's steering wheel has started to make a squeaky noise whenever I turn it. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?
ReplyOne possible cause of a squeaky steering wheel could be a lack of lubrication on the steering column. You can try applying a silicone lubricant or graphite powder to the column to reduce the noise. Just be sure not to use an oil-based lubricant as it can attract dirt and make the issue worse.
Another common cause is worn out ball joints. If the noise persists even after lubrication, it may be a good idea to have the ball joints checked and possibly replaced if necessary.
In some cases, the squeaking could be coming from the bushings in the steering column. You can try spraying them with a silicone lubricant to see if that helps. If not, it may be worth having a mechanic take a look.
