How can I check the oil level in my Audi A6?

I recently purchased a used Audi A6 and want to make sure the oil level is optimal. How do I go about checking it myself?

To check the oil level in your Audi A6, first make sure the car is on a level surface and the engine is cold. Open the hood and locate the dipstick, which usually has a yellow handle. Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean with a cloth. Reinsert it fully and then remove it again to read the oil level. The oil should be between the minimum and maximum marks on the dipstick. If it's below the minimum, you'll need to add more oil.
