Are ceramic brakes worth the extra cost in the Audi R8?

I'm considering purchasing an Audi R8, but I'm not sure if opting for the ceramic brakes is worth the extra expense. Can anyone offer insights on the performance and longevity of these brakes compared to traditional brakes?
